Round Robin Doubles Templates

Below you can download templates for round robin play for anywhere between 4 to 20 players on 1 to 4 courts.
For a deeper introduction into the challenges of creating well balanced round robin schedules, see here.
The templates are firstly optimised so that every player (or every team for fixed doubles/singles) sits out the same number of times. Secondly, they also attempt to ensure that each player/team plays with and against different players/teams every round, while still keeping the overall schedule practical.
There is rarely a single "perfect" schedule for a given number of players and courts. A good draw is always a tradeoff between partner variety, opponent variety, sitout fairness, and how balanced the games look.
For round robin doubles, this format supports a rated pool where P1 is the strongest player, P2 the next strongest and so on. That lets it judge whether stronger and weaker players are being spread sensibly across the courts, but improving that balance can sometimes reduce partner or opponent variety.
Because those tradeoffs change from one player/court combination to the next, the best session format is not always the same. The download links below now point to the top-ranked session format for each combination.
To achieve equal bench time requires the given rounds to be played in full, so if you need to play less rounds this will mean some players will sit out more than others.
Feel free to use these templates at your club / event.
The 'Fixed Doubles / Singles' templates can be used when you have 2 partners playing together for the session - they can also be used for singles sessions.
